May Update

Hood Industries Breaks Ground in Beaumont

I recently had the pleasure of attending the ground-breaking ceremony for Hood Industries’ new $200 million investment in Beaumont. This project – a new, state-of-the-art laminated plywood panel manufacturing facility – will create 265 new, good-paying direct jobs in the Perry County area. Hood Industries has long been a strong partner in the Pine Belt, and their continued investments will benefit the men and women of our region.

Hattiesburg Clinic Policy Discussion

I was joined by Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann earlier this month to discuss healthcare policy with the physicians and staff members of Hattiesburg Clinic. The Clinic is doing great work providing high-quality healthcare to residents. I believe regular meetings with healthcare professionals help policymakers understand their unique strengths and challenges, as well as possible legislative solutions.

William Carey Medical School

The William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine ranks #1 in the nation placing graduates into rural areas for the second year in a row, according to a study recently released by US News and World Report! Congratulations to WCU President Dr. Ben Burnett, Dean of the School of Osteopathic Medicine Dr. Italo Subbarao, and all the students and faculty who have worked hard to achieve this high status. Mississippi is proud of you!

Perry County Farm Bureau

I enjoyed catching up with my friends at Perry County Farm Bureau. Last year, Mississippi Farm Bureau celebrated its 100th anniversary. I know firsthand the impact this organization and the Perry County chapter has made in our local community, working alongside farmers and other agricultural producers to help them thrive. It is the honor of a lifetime to advocate on behalf of farmers at the Mississippi Capitol.

Brennan is graduating!

My son, Brennan, is graduating from high school! I’m so proud of him for reaching this milestone. I’m also tremendously proud of his baseball performance this season. He plays both shortstop and pitches, and recently had a walk off double against no. 19 in the country, Jackson Prep! The Mississippi Scoreboard described the win as follows: “Presbyterian Christian pulls off shocker, upsets five-time MAIS Class 6A state baseball champion and nationally ranked Jackson Prep 12-2.” Way to go to Brennan and his teammates!

Early Intervention Task Force

This month, I was honored to be appointed by Senate Education Chairman Dennis Debar as his designee on the Early Intervention Task Force created this past legislative session. As a member of this group, I will study the IDEA Part C Early Intervention System (which provides services for infants and toddlers ages birth-2 with disabilities and their families) in our state with an eye toward any needed regulatory and/or law changes.

Shoot Me an Email

As your state senator, I’m always looking for input to help me best represent you at the Capitol. Feel free to send me ideas, suggestions, or concerns, and let me know what is going on in District 45! chjohnson@senate.ms.gov
